We are drawn to water 
in all her glories –
from the great open ocean,
to a communal pool,
to the edge of a small park lake.

Perhaps this is because
we are built from flood,
each carried into this world submerged.

A connection as strong as tide.
The ripples of ‘a warm little pond’.

That most ancient element of light 
bonds twice to the breath of all living creatures
and the story of our creation springs.

Where once we came to bathe.
now here we come to spill our tales.

Through the fluidity of communication
and the salted flow 
we are carried down the generations
on storms 
back to the oldest sea.

Drench us in understanding, 
quench our thirst with inspiration,
then 
wrench us like a whirlpool 
and immerse us in one another.
